HISTORY

Polemos was created within the last millennium by three sibling deities with clashing values.

Cranios, the eldest and strongest sibling, mapped the planet's terrain. He summoned mountains licking towards the sky, and carved out pools to fill with rich, blue water. He fertilized the rock with gems and ore, stretching a carpet of grass, plains, snow and swamps to sanction off biomes. As a gift to his younger family members, Cranios divided the land in half, driving each continent thousands of miles away.  Cranios put thousands of stars into the sky, hanging a sun and a moon among them to shed light onto the new world, and finally, his final gift, he created a race and situated them all throughout the world: humans.

Lavathor the sibling known for his nurturing and serene nature, claimed the eastern continent and named it Vida. He brought with him the gift of wilderness, embellishing the land with trees as far as the eye could see, a rainbow variety of floral and fauna webbing over cliff sides and caressing lakes. He created races of nymphs, elves, satyrs, and goblins, all communicative, to create homes and worship Lavathor in his blessed lands. When Cranios brought humans to this land, Lavathor blessed some with animal features, creating various anthropomorphic beings.

The followers of Lavathor are known as Lavates.

Aethel is Lavathor's twin sister, known for her ambition and persistent nature, claimed the western continent, which she named Maquina. She had a strong passion and curiosity that drove her to explore and create. She brought the gift of innovation, providing the land with resources and strong, hardy material for her races to build and discover. The species Aethel crafted into the world were resilient, like the iron and steel she gifted them with. Minotaurs, dwarfs, and giants. When Cranios brought humans to this land, Aethel blessed some with robotic features, creating various cyborg beings.

The followers of Aethel are known as Aethians.

This was the very start of Polemos.

Polemos is a newer planet, approximately 2 billion years old, with cognitive life having been introduced just a few millennium ago. It was at this time that Cranios vanished. Upon the disappearance of their mediator, Aethel and Lavathor rallied their followers and set a path of war and destruction. This first world war lasted nearly a thousand years, until both sides had exhausted themselves and were almost entirely wiped out.

With the temporary truce came an era of peace. In that time, Aethel and Lavathor also vanished without a trace. Though the populations and life slowly returned, natural life slowly mapping over Vida once more with even stronger roots, and an industrial revolution taking Maquina to incredible new technological heights, nobody was certain where the deities had gone. But slowly, each of the populations took control of themselves.

Maquina became a capitalist nation, fueled by money with an ever growing poverty gap. Vida's communities separated, fallen to feral instinct. Much of the nation turned to anarchy outside common village grounds with the strongest seizing power.

Opinions differ across the world, some thriving in a godless land, while others feel like the loss of leadership will lead to an eventual end of civilization as we know it.

Many radicals are convinced that the key to returning the gods is the domination of their opposing lands, while others simply require the labor and resources not yet in possession. Whatever the reason, it's causing tension to brew in Vida and Maquina, threatening to catapult the world into another bloody war. And this time, there are no gods or goddesses to call truce.
